Recognizing Veloretti failures: Ace One, Ace Two and Ivy Two
OnTheRoad4 min reading time

Veloretti is an Amsterdam brand, since 2022 part of Pon.Bike (also owner of Gazelle). All Ace and Ivy models run on a Bafang mid-engine with Gates belt drive; the Two generation gained an automatic Enviolo acceleration that switches itself. This guide covers the signals we see most often, from saving mode behaviour with an empty battery to a frayed belt.
First this, doesn't cost anything.
Support suddenly feels weak, up to 15 km/h
Check: Look at the battery percentage in the display or app. Veloretti automatically switches to a low-support save mode under 20%.
Solution: Free: charge. This is not a malfunction but built-in battery behavior to reach the last mileage.
Enviolo acceleration (Ace Two, Ivy Two) switches shockfully just after driving away
Check: Does it only happen first meters from standstill, or even while driving on speed itself?
Solution: Free: only when pulling up is normal behavior of the automatic hub. If the biting continues while driving, then we check the cable voltage when visiting, which we adjust on the spot.
Belt makes a ticking or grinding sound
Check: Push your finger against the belt halfway between the two gears, does it bend more than about an inch?
Solution: Free if it is pure tension: we set special component costs. If the belt is visibly torn or frayed, then replacement is required (see below).
Mistakes that we fix at home
Flat or worn tyre (28-inch, Presta valve)
Check: Veloretti uses a 28-band with French valve on all Ace and Ivy models, a lesser size than most other brands.
Solution: we keep this size in stock and usually replace a flat tyre at your door within 20 minutes. Replacing just the inner tube is also possible.
Brake feels weak, spongy or squeaky
Check: a spongy lever points to hydraulic brakes that need bleeding. Squealing or poor grip more often indicates worn brake pads.
Solution: brake pads cost €24,00 per side and hydraulic brake bleeding costs €30,00 per side, both at your home.
Belt visibly torn, frayed or worn
Check: A Gates belt normally lasts thousands of kilometers; visible cracks or frays along the edge mean that replacement doesn't wait long.
Solution: We replace the belt at home for €94.99.
Display or lighting is no longer working
Check: Is the connector loose at the wheel or battery? It sometimes vibrates while driving.
Solution: Securing the Connector usually solves it; if the display or the light itself is defective, we replace the part on a visit, the price you hear in advance.
What we deliberately don't do
Complete engine revisions, warranty work and repairs on the inside of the Enviolo hub belong to Veloretti himself. We honestly refer that work to the Veloretti Brand Store (Van Woustraat, Amsterdam), we prefer not to take a job that belongs there.
Do you recognize your malfunction? We maintain Veloretti's at home in Amsterdam, usually within 1-2 days. Maintenance €45 all-in, and you always hear the price before we do anything extra. Book an appointment · more about our Veloretti service
