Tenways error codes explained

Motor Hall signal absent or abnormal

Try it yourself: The best known Tenways code. Switch the bike off, wait 30 seconds, then switch it back on. Doesn't help: unplug the motor cable at the rear wheel and plug it back firmly, it is much more often the connector than the sensor itself.

If the error persists or returns, mention it at your next maintenance visit so we can check the cable and connector.

Overvoltage

Try it yourself: Switch the bike off, wait 5 minutes and restart. Do you use the original Tenways charger? An incorrect charger is a known cause.

If the code keeps coming back, please contact Tenways support, this is outside what we do at the door.

Current sensor error (current above limit)

Try yourself: Power-cycle (off/on). Inspect visible wiring for damage or moisture spots.

Does it persist? A recurring code 21 usually points to the wiring or controller. Contact Tenways support.

Controller overheated

Try for yourself: Let the bike cool down, then ride with a lower assistance level, especially in hot weather or on long climbs, including bridges in a headwind.

Does it persist? If this returns during normal use, report it to Tenways support.

Motor speed data abnormal

Try it yourself: Check that the wheel diameter setting in the display matches your real tyre size (after a tyre change this sometimes goes wrong).

Sensor signal out of range (torque, cadence or brake)

Try it yourself: Check the wiring around bottom bracket and seat tube for damage, moisture or caked mud, this is a typical autumn/winter code.

Does it persist? We can include cleaning and inspection in a maintenance visit.

Communication error display ↔ controller

Try it yourself: Check the cable and connector directly behind the display. After replacing the display, it may need pairing again.

If it keeps returning, the wiring harness or controller needs attention from Tenways support.

Motor phase error

Try it yourself: There is little to do yourself beyond switching the bike off and on; this code indicates the wiring between controller and motor.

Testing the wiring is work for Tenways support.

There are code lists circulating online with invented meanings (among others a "50-53" series that is nowhere officially documented). We only include codes that are in the Tenways manual or helpdesk. Feel free to send us a picture of your display via WhatsApp, then we will tell you honestly what it is, even if you don't need an appointment for it.
